Patent No. 410,116 awarded to James on September 3, 1889 incorporates a hasp-thimble design. Although no exact example of his patent is known, the hasp-thimble is featured on a few candlesticks such as the example shown. As with the James patent, the handle is compressed to insert or move the candle and the resulting spring tension holds the candle firmly.]
